Before settling into collision repair, most of you undoubtedly spent time in some other area of
service or customer care. While there, you may have encountered a phenomenon known as "crazy hat
day." It worked something like this. After fielding reports of lagging employee morale, a human resources
professional decided the best way to counter sinking spirits was to pump up the workplace fun — by
inviting employees to wear a wacky hat into the office/store/plant on an appointed Friday. Of course, everyone took
part, morale soared, and the company made record profits, right? Hardly.
